Trousers

01. The Philosophy

A great suit is anchored by its trousers. While the jacket provides the silhouette, the trousers provide the movement. Whether you are commissioning a full suit or a pair of formal separates, our trousers are engineered for comfort, drape, and longevity.

We curate a library of high-quality wools suited for every climate—from breathable high-twist wools for all-season wear to dense, rich flannels for distinct winter elegance.

The “Workhorse” Recommendation

Trousers endure significantly more stress and friction than jackets. For clients commissioning a “workhorse” suit for daily rotation, we highly recommend ordering two pairs of trousers. This simple investment effectively doubles the lifespan of your suit, ensuring the jacket and trousers age at the same pace.

02. Construction Standards

Every pair we make, regardless of style, is built with these non-negotiable standards of care:

  • The Perfect Hold: We utilize a specialized interior waistband with rubberized grip texture. This gently holds your dress shirt in place, preventing it from untucking as you move throughout the day.
  • Cotton Pocketing: We refuse to use synthetic pocket bags. Our pockets are lined with durable, heavy-duty cotton that breathes well and resists holes.
  • Smart Lining: The interior lining is crucial for longevity and comfort. We customize this based on your fabric choice:
    • Fully Lined: For white or light fabrics (transparency) or sensitive wools.
    • Half Lined (Front Only): The standard for durability where friction occurs most.
    • Unlined: Reserved for heavy linens or open-weave frescoes for maximum airflow.

03. The Style Guide (Optional Details)

We cut to your preference. Customize your commission with the following options to suit your personal aesthetic, from modern minimalist to retro classic.

A. The Waist & Closure

  • Belt Loops: The classic choice for versatility.
  • Side Adjusters (The “Inbuilt Belt”): Metal buckles or button-tabs located on the hips that allow you to cinch the waist without a belt. This creates a cleaner, uninterrupted visual line and is highly recommended for formal wear.
  • Extended Tab / Gurkha: A higher-waisted, sartorial option featuring an overlapping waistband for a vintage aesthetic.

B. The Pleats

  • Flat Front: Clean, modern, and slimming. Best for slim-fit profiles.
  • Single Pleat: A balance of comfort and style. The single fold adds a sharp vertical line down the leg.
  • Double Pleats: A nod to the Golden Age of tailoring. These provide maximum room in the hip and thigh for superior comfort and a distinct, retro silhouette.

C. The Finish (The Hem)

  • Plain Hem: A clean finish that works well to elongate the leg.
  • Turn-Ups (Cuffs): A folded cuff (usually 1.5″ to 2″). The extra fabric adds weight to the bottom of the trouser, pulling the leg straight and improving the drape.
